Konjunktion (Conjugation)

Conjunctions are words used to connect clauses, phrases, or words. They help form complex sentences.

1. Sub-ordinating Conjunction:

It changes the position of the verb in the sentence. * It can be applied either in Ist or in Ind half/sentence.

Rule of SoC (Sub-ordinating. Conjunction)

  1. When the subordinate clause is in the 2nd sentence (after the main clause)
  • The main clause (1st sentence) does not change word order.
  • Verb @2nd position in the 2nd sentence will go to the end of the 2nd sentence in conjugated form

Example: Ich gehe nach Hause, weil es regnet. → I am going home because it is raining.

Er kommt heute nicht. Er ist krank --> Er kommt heute nicht, weil er krank ist.

Sie will Deutsch lernen, Sie will in Berlin studieren. --> Sie will Deutsch lernen, weil sie in Berlin Studieren will.

Ich habe das Buch nicht gekauft. Ich habe es schon gelesen. --> Ich habe das Buch nicht gekauft, weil ich es schon gelesen habe.

Ich kann heute nicht kommen Ich raume mein Zimmer --> Ich kann henk nicht kommen, (antsräume) weil ich mein Zimmer auf räume.

Ich kann heute nicht kommen. Ich muss mein Zimmer aufräumen. --> Ich kann heute nicht kommen, weil ich mein Zimmer aufräumen muss!

  1. When the subordinate clause is in the 1st sentence (before the main clause)
  • Verb @2nd position in the Ist sentence will go to the and of the Ist sentence (in conjugated form)
  • Verb @2nd position on second sentence will come in the beginning of the IInd sentence (in conjugated form)

WWWOODA W - Wenn - When W - Weil - beccause W - Wie - as/if/how O - ob - whether O - obwohl - although D - dass - that A - als - as/when

2. Co-ordinating Conjunction

It is also called null (0) position Conjunction, because its position is not counted in the sentence.

  • It does NOT have any impact on the word order ie. it just adjusts itself in between of the two parts/sentences.

(OSUDA)

  • O - oder - or
  • S - sondern - rather
  • U - und - and
  • D - denn - because (alternatively, we can use "weil" also)
  • A - aber - but
