📖 telc B1 – Leseverstehen Practice

🖼️ telc B1 – Präsentation (Teil 2 Mündliche Prüfung)

Exam Format

Detail
Task Give a short monologue about a topic shown on a card (image or short text)
Preparation 20 minutes (shared with Teil 3) — silent, in a separate room
Duration ~3–4 minutes monologue + examiner questions (~1–2 min)
Points 30 points (the highest-scoring oral task)
Topics Media, work, health, environment, travel, housing, family, education, leisure

⏱ Using Preparation Time (20 minutes)

You share 20 minutes for both Teil 2 and Teil 3. Split it:

Minutes What to do

8–12 Develop your Hauptteil: 2–3 arguments or perspectives, personal example
12–16 Plan Teil 3 (the planning dialogue)
16–20 Review notes, practice first sentence out loud in your head

Key rule: Write key words and phrases, not full sentences. You speak — you do not read from your notes.

🖼️ Image Prompt — What to say in each step

When you get an image, go through these 3 steps:

Schritt 1 — Was sehe ich? (Describe what you see)

Schritt 2 — Was bedeutet das? (Interpret the scene)

Schritt 3 — Was denke ich? (Your opinion with reasons)

📄 Text Prompt — What to say in each step

When you get a short text or quote, go through these 3 steps:

Schritt 1 — Was ist das Thema? (What is the topic?)

Schritt 2 — Was sagt der Text? (Summarize the main idea)

Schritt 3 — Was denke ich? (Your view)

🎯 Model Monologue — Homeoffice

Topic card: Image of a person working at home on a laptop

Word count: ~230 words / ~3 minutes at natural speaking pace

⚡ Examiner Questions — How to Answer

After your monologue, the examiner will ask 1–2 follow-up questions. Common patterns:

Question type Example Strategy
Your personal experience "Haben Sie selbst Erfahrung mit Homeoffice?" Answer honestly, add one detail
Your opinion challenged "Aber macht Homeoffice nicht einsam?" Agree partly + give your nuance
Comparisons "Wie ist das in Ihrem Heimatland?" Compare — more/less/differently
Predict with „Ich glaube, dass …"

Useful comeback phrases:

📝 Practice Topics

Use these for self-practice. Prepare a 3-minute monologue using the structure above.

🚨 Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake Fix
Only describing the image, no opinion After describing: always say „Ich denke, dass …" or „Meiner Meinung nach …"
Speaking too fast (nerves) Slow down — pauses sound confident, not weak
Using very short sentences only Connect with: weil, deshalb, aber, obwohl, wenn
Stopping after 1–2 minutes Aim for 3 minutes — go deeper: add example, compare to your home country
Forgetting the conclusion Always end with Zusammenfassend … or Alles in allem …
Mixing topics randomly Stick to your 3-part plan: describe → your view → conclusion
