Sentence adverbs express the speaker's attitude, opinion, certainty, or emotion about the whole sentence.

🤔 Possibility & Certainty

📍 Position in the Sentence

Sentence adverbs are commonly placed near the beginning of the sentence.

Leider habe ich keine Zeit.

Hoffentlich wird das Wetter besser.

Vielleicht kommt sie morgen.

They may also appear after the verb for emphasis.

Ich komme vielleicht später.

Er hat wirklich recht.

Don't confuse these with modal adverbs.

✅ Er spricht langsam. (How does he speak?) → Modal Adverb

✅ Leider spricht er nicht Deutsch. (Speaker's opinion) → Sentence Adverb
