Conjunctions :: Konjunktionen 🔗

Conjunctions join two ideas, clauses, or sentences — just like “and,” “but,” or “because” in English.

A clause is a group of words that contains at least a subject and a verb.

Clause have 2 types:

                  (Subordinate Clause)

1. 📝 Hauptsatz (Main Clause)

A main clause can stand alone as a complete sentence.

Subject→Verb→Object Subject → Verb → ObjectSubject→Verb→Object

  • Verb usually in Position 2

Example: Ich lerne Deutsch.

2. 🔗 Nebensatz (Subordinate Clause)

A subordinate clause cannot stand alone.

Conjunction→Subject→Object→VerbConjunction → Subject → Object → VerbConjunction→Subject→Object→Verb

  • It depends on a main clause.
  • Cannot stand alone
  • Verb moves to the end

Example: weil ich Deutsch lerne
